A SHOUT OUT TO MY AUNT, UNCLE AND COUSIN IN THE STATES.

HELLO :)

Raise them placards and raise them high

THIMUN Singapore was amazing.
Hands down.

People say I'm lucky because a THIMUN conference is my second conference and I was an ambassador too. Debating, lobbying, meeting so many new people and missing them afterwards.
Singapore <3 A truly amazing place to be. I miss it dearly. I suspect that the place itself contributed to the emotions I associate with the conference (something we discussed in psychology today ;) ) because it was amazing just being there again. Words cannot express what the conference was like. Well they probably can but they don't seem to be flowing from my mouth at the moment. Probably because I'm sleepy.

I miss everyone and everything there. I'm suffering from PMS- Post MUN Syndrome and I want it to go away. I want to raise my placard (and not get called on most of the time), I want to walk around in suits and heels and feel important, I want to pass notes to the adorable little admins who love passing notes (and adding their own scribbles) I want to debate and lobby and meet new people, and meet old ones again.

This was a longer post than expected. I must be off to bed now. I'm sleepy, as mentioned earlier.

Hello Shaillu :) Thanks for staying up to read my endless posts.

Because this place isn't magical enough

I truly believe that J.K. Rowling has surpassed herself, and has given the world a gift; the Harry Potter series are the best seven books ever written in history.

If you do not wish to die a slow and painful death, never insult Harry Potter, EVER. I will slap you, throw you off a building, stab you, poke you in the eye and other places with my fake wand, stone you, jump on your back, scream in your ear, stomp on your foot, kick you, punch you, shoot you, stare at you with my creepy stare, ignore you (you know you need my attention), push you into a wall, throw you off a building, hang you by your ears, whip you, hit you, hate you, wish you death, kill you.

Harry Potter is my childhood, my past, my present and my future. I can read and reread the books umpteen times and I will never get bored of them. The first book I ever got my hands on was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. My dad got it for me and I started reading it as I moved along orchard road. I did not understand much but the book had it's own kind of magic that bound me and compelled me to keep reading until I did understand. After that, I had to read every other book I could get my hands on.

I remember when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (the book- I hate most of the movies) came out. It came out during a weekend when I was in 6th grade. The next day, I watched enviously as my friends read the last book of the series, the book that would determine and show the world Harry's fate. When I got home that evening, I begged my dad to get me a copy but he refused. Heartbroken, I vented my frustration by playing video games (I was a heavy gamer then and I loved Super Mario). My mother stopped me at 7, after 3 hours of continuous gaming and made me promise that I wouldn't read anymore books or watch television or go anywhere near the computer for the rest of the day. When my dad came home, I noticed a square package in his arms- behold the Deathly Hallows. I was ecstatic but I could not read it, not yet, so I slept early hoping that 'tomorrow' would come fast. The next day and the day after that, I finished the book in a record of 3 hours total. I was quite proud of myself.

Now and then I reread the books, and after I finish I feel a pang of sadness. That was another book that I had finished, another detail that I now knew, which meant that the next time I read it, there would be less to learn. But the excitement and the magic never goes away.

I apologize for the huge post, but I wanted to show my gratitude to Joanne Kathleen Rowling and the Harry Potter Series; you have truly made my life magical. Kudos to you.

11/11/11

HAPPY 11/11/11! I hope that everyone made a wish at 11:11:11 today. I did, with my friend Shai in Psychology and we took a snapshot on Kaizer's laptop.
I apologise because I feel a little silly, making a huge deal out of a date but I can't help doing so when everyone around me is so excited. It does seem a little magical though it might have been in my imagination. Don't forget to make another wish at 11.11.11 11:11 PM today. I choose to wish the same wish again to strengthen it :)

Don't fear death, fear a life unlived. You don't have to live forever, you just have to live.

I came across this quote today and it really spoke to me. (I know unlived isn't a word but I couldn't rephrase it properly.)
Many fear death, because they fear losing everything they have. They don't want to stop living, to be wiped out from this world. Even if you are not physically in this world, you will always live on through memories and the work you have done. Don't fear death, it only makes you over cautious and you lose the meaning of life.
I once read this book about a young boy with cancer. He eventually died by the end, but even though I cant remember the name or the author of the book, I remember the value I learned from it.

There are all kinds of tunes, some short ones and some long ones. The long ones are perfectly fine the way they are, as are the short ones. The long ones usually drag on for a bit and when you think they are done, they continue. The short ones are usually peppy with a nice beat and they stay in your heads the longest. They don't NEED to be any longer than they are. Would you rather be a long tune or a short tune?

I don't think that I need to explain further on the quote. It really says things, doesn't it?

THE FUTURE

The future is a long time away.
Then again it is not.
The sad disadvantage of being a TCT is that you often set your mind on going to a certain place for university, when you might have to go back to your own instead. It is not a rare occurrence for people staying in their own country to want to go to other places as well, but for TCTs, its harder.

The US is where I want to study medicine. If not, Singapore, UK and India is fine but my heart is set on medicine. Unfortunately, medicine takes about 8+ years to study unpaid but after those first years, you do residency and you get paid. Medicine is expensive, no joke. 40,000 is the average PER YEAR. The number makes me shrivel up and die a little inside. My parents also have my sister to take care of, and she is showing interest in medicine as well.

I like planning. It amuses me.

Third Culture Teens. (Third Culture Kids)

TCKs are people who are in the middle of two cultures, because they have moved around a lot or they live somewhere apart from their original country. I'm a TCK, or a TCT as I like to call it.

Chris Shaughnessy is an amazing speaker who has lived in 81+ countries, and he isn't even married yet. He talked to our school about the life of a TCK and how they are different from those who remained in their home country for most of their lives. I found him terribly funny and his accents were amazing.

As you can tell, I've changed my blog a bit and my writing style is going to be different (I'll tell you about that assignment later). New Blog year (yes its been over a year since I've been blogging), new blog ideas.

Get ready for my posts.

Happy.

No, I am not going to write about my friend's dog, Happy the chihuahua; I'm going to talk about his namesake.

I've been feeling really stressed and irritable for the past few weeks and I hated feeling that way. I wanted to feel comfortable and relaxed like I used to.
Yesterday, was one of the most beautiful days Malaysia had ever seen. The skies were clear, the sun was bright, the wind was cool. When I woke up early, or au chant du coq as they say in french, I felt really good. Usually, I don't like leaving my soft comfortable bed; I always feel lethargic. This time, I practically threw back the covers, grabbed my books and started working.
I finished off all of my work by mid afternoon and had the rest of the day free!
Best feeling in the universe.

WHAT I DID WHEN I WASN'T AT MST-DAY 2

Oh hai there!
Well, to cut to the point really fast because I'm really sleepy at 8:30 even after drinking some coffee,
I went to PAWS today! :D
Paws Animal Welfare Shelter is a shelter for cats and dogs, and the adoption rates are really cheap! They have about a hundred dogs and maybe 50 or more cats that don't have any homes.
Our job was to walk the dogs, (we only managed 10 -.-) and just help out.
Those dogs are adorable! And super strong!
Anyhoo.
I g2g.

WHAT I DID WHEN I WASN'T AT MST-DAY 1

Oh hai there!
I've never been so sore before in my entire life.
Well I probably was but I don't remember.
Well I remember but I'm not in the mood to talk about it.
ANYHOO,yesterday, I went to the ORGANIC FARM near Genting.
Took us ages to find the place, but once we got there, we were working so hard.
We did the following things:
1. Mowed the grass
2. Raked the leaves+cut grass
3. dumped the leaves+grass near the compost (compartment?)
4. put the leaves INSIDE the compost (compartment?)-much harder than it looks :\
5. cleared 2 rows of weeds.

Well that was a hard and tiring day!

WHAT I DID WITH MY TIME: PRE-MST

OH HAI THERE!
Tonight is the night before MST, and I've taken the evening off to chill and do whatever to take my mind off MST tomorrow.
I can see that it isn't working since I've mentioned MST 4 times including this sentence.

ANYHOO, So far, I have
#1: COMPLETED THE WALL OF MY ROOM.
You see, I cut out the really good pictures from my leftover magazines and put them up on my wall to make it more interesting. I've got some pictures here by the way.
Wall #1
above my desk
Wall #2
above my bed
Wall #3
above my shelf
Wall #4
my only blank wall

As you can see, wall number 4 is my only black wall (roll in them 'cool story brah's) I left this on purpose so that if I ever needed a quiet blankness, I could look over there.
Reading that line again told me that it made no sense, but I'll leave it there because it made sense to me when I first wrote it, so maybe it will make sense later.
SO, when you now enter my room, it looks a bit smaller, but cozier with an essence of 'Meghna' on the walls. I actually doubt that I'd wear any of the clothes in the CLEO magazine but it looks nice on my walls.
FACT: THE WALLS LOOK COOLER WHEN YOU ARE ACTUALLY IN MY ROOM.

#2: CHECK OUT THIS LINK
It's a step by step tutorial of how to dance to PARTY ROCK ANTHEM by LMFAO.
I'm sure you all have heard the catchy phrase "shuffling shuffling". If not, check out THIS LINK.

So, I've learned how to SHUFFLE :D, but its not necessary proven that I'm good at shuffling.
So check it out if you're bored and can't sleep because you are too excited for MST.

Wow, reading this again, and I've concluded, LAWL I'M SO LAME.

Yeah gotta eat my dinner or I'm dead meat.

MST

In case you didn't know, ( you probably do, but I'm telling you anyway) MST stands for Malaysian Studies Trip. Every grade in middle and high school (from 6th to 12th) go for the MST. My grade this year is going to Gopeng, where they will do super fun activities like caving, rock climbing, and white water rafting. I'm not going unfortunately, so I will join the other people who aren't going.

So I'll post about what I did while everyone else is in MST doing whatever, so my friends know what I've been up to. (like they care- HA!)

Chapter 7: A trip into Saleena's head

Out behind the house, I was sprawled on the ground. Ashley appeared in a flash of shimmering green light next to me. “What is wrong honey?” She asked me with concern.
“EVERYTHING!” I yelled. “I can’t do this at all! I don’t even get what I have to do in the first place. ‘Clear your mind’ your sister says, but of what? What do I clear it of?”
Ashley joined me on the ground. “Clear your mind of all emotion and thoughts. If you can’t do that, then calm yourself down. Think happy.” She smiled at me. “Go to your happy place.”
My happy place? My happy place was winning at everything. Being perfect. I wasn’t perfect. I was…less that perfect. Michaela, well, my Mikey was the most perfect anyone could be. She comes first in everything, which was why after our third track and field event in fifth grade, I never joined the same events she did, or the same sports or musical events, nothing that would give her a chance at beating me. And the worst thing was that she doesn’t even like all that attention. I bask in glory and attention, it was so obvious that I was built for the spotlight, but she always wins! I’m sure that she will be perfect for this since she was built for winning!
“You aren’t in your happy place.” Ashley trilled next to me. Gosh, she was getting annoying.
She sat up, hurt showing on her face. “I am not annoying!”
My eyes widened. “But, I didn’t say that out loud!”
She smiled at me, but hurt still showing on her face. “The two of us have the power of telekinesis and telepathy remember”
Oh yeah. I liked the way she said the two of us. Teamwork. “How do I clear my mind again?” I asked her.
Her smile widened, hurt giving way to excitement. “Calm down first.”

Chapter 6

I woke up feeling great.  I didn’t know if it was because of what Mom or Megan said yesterday, but I could feel this amazing power pulsing through me, like a heartbeat. I felt like I could do anything in the world. Mom was already in the kitchen making a power drink for us. She still looked worried. “Honey,” She called softly as I gulped the drink. “We haven’t finished talking about what we were talking about yesterday. After practice, meet me in the living room okay?”
“Sure thing Mom.” I told her. “Isn’t Sal ready yet? We have two minutes till we meet them outside.”
“Correction.” Megan walked into the kitchen briskly. “ One and a half minutes and counting.”
Sal almost crawled down the stairs in her sleep. “Whatever Megan, we will be there.” But she was already gone. “Hey Mom, what are we going to do for our birthday party?” I had forgotten about that, mainly because it wasn’t my priority at the moment. It wasn’t like Sal to forget what was really important.
Mom wrinkled her nose. “About that, well.” She paused to think about it. “We will talk about it in the evening after practice since we have to talk anyway. Now go! Don’t make your cousins wait!”
Outside, only Megan was waiting next to the tree. Ashley was nowhere in sight.  “Ten seconds late.” She reprimanded us.
“Ten seconds. Big deal.” I rolled my eyes.
In the neck second I found myself pressed against the wall of the house by a hand made of earth. Megan stood ten feet away with her hand in the same position as the earth hand. “Ten seconds is an incredibly big a deal in this world. In ten seconds, you could be dead or alive depending on what you do.” She released me. “Your call.”
“Okay okay fine.” I muttered. “Where is Ashley by the way? Isn’t she late?”
“Oh no I’m not. I have been here for a while.” And I jumped at the sound of the disembodied voice that belonged to Ashley, but sounded like it came from next to me. “And I’m not invisible.” She said with a laugh that scared me for some reason. “I can’t do that yet.”
“Well, if you’re not invisible, what are you? We are wasting time here, I could be doing anything else right now.” Saleena said kicking a stone around.
“Then go do it.” Megan snarled.
“I just might.” Saleena replied.
“Oh no don’t fight!” Ashley appeared from near the tree and ran towards the two. “Don’t fight! This is extremely important!”
Megan backed off. “She’s right. Lets work.”  She called all of us to gather in the center of the yard. “Okay everyone, form a line.” When we had done so, we had formed a line with Megan and I at either end. She walked over to me and took my hand so that we had formed a square. “Now, the first step to mastering is to clear your mind. Breathe evenly and empty your mind of all thought.”
“One sec.” I called out. “Before we start all the mumbo jumbo I have a question.”
Megan sighed. “Yes. What is it?”
“Won’t our neighbors see us chucking rocks at each other?”
“No they won’t,” She replied, her eyes already closed. “Those who don’t have powers won’t be able to see a thing. Now close your eyes!”
I closed them fast wondering how she knew they were open.
“Clear your mind of all emotions. Breathe evenly. In. And out. In. And out. Continue.”
I could feel myself calming down suddenly as I listened to her. “Okay, since Michaela will need to work near water since it is the easiest element, so Ashley is going to teleport us over to the river.”  Then to Ashley. “When you are ready Ash.”
There was a sudden whoosh of air and we were on the bank of the river. Everyone except Saleena. Megan sighed heavily, “She didn’t clear her mind. How can Ash teleport her if her head isn’t clear?”
Ashley seemed unaffected. “Don’t worry, I’ll get her.” And she was gone.
The river seemed pretty calm as it flowed downstream. We had waited a full two minutes before Megan finally said, “Might as well begin. Don’t want to waste precious time. Get near the water.” I silently reached the bank of the river. It was pretty shallow on the bank but really deep about five meters in. “Get in.” She ordered. When she saw my questioning look, she just waded in. “Being in the water will help you to understand what you are trying to control.” She called over her shoulder. I waded in after her, enjoying the cool touch of water as it swirled around my legs. I felt home in the water, an amazing feeling, like it was part of me. I had never felt like this before, even though I swam often.
“Good.” Megan smiled. “I can feel you being comfortable in the water, your mind is clear. We can now go to the first step. Hold your palms over the water.” I copied her demonstration. “We’re going to move the water slowly, just to create ripples on the surface so that you can get the hang of it. Will the water to move.”
I watched her as she gently moved her hands back and forth over the surface of the water and almost immediately, the water began to move in synchronization to her hands. I tried to mimic her action but all I lost my footing and fell into the water with a splash. I shook my head to get rid of the water. “Don’t lau…” I was about to say laugh but she was scowling instead. That would have been funny for anyone. What is her problem?
“Don’t fool around.” She growled. “Get up and try again.” Then she took a deep breath to calm herself before saying, “Okay, try to be one with the water. Watch its movement and try to make your mind move with it, then try to make it move according to your will.”
I stared at the water with determination. Soon, I found myself swaying with the water, moving with its molecules. “Perfect. Now will it to move the way you want it to.” Megan said from behind me. With caution, because I didn’t want to miss this and have to start again, I moved my hands against the motion of the current. At first, the change was pretty minimal but soon I could manipulate the current according to my hand movement. The edge of my mouth curled up in a smile. This was going to be easy.

Chapter 5

We were all seated in the living room. Sal on my right, and Katie in between us. Mom sat across from us and Megan and Ashley on either side. There was a complete silence that was broken every few seconds by Mom’s sniffling. “Oh my babies! So big now! …. the poor poor darlings! It’s going to be so dangerous!”
“We get it Mom, You’re worried, but let Megan and Ashley talk.” Saleena rolled her eyes. “I can’t wait to hear.”
I glanced over at her. She sat there next to me with her fingers entwined in Katie’s hair. It was a good thing that Katie had a positive influence on her moods. It sure was handy right now.
“Well, to start with,” Mom dried her eyes and sat up. “I’m the one who is telling the story here. So listen carefully.” She cleared her throat. “A long time ago, so long ago that nobody really knows when, there was a sorcerer or warlock. His powers were so cast that he could control almost everything in the universe. He could control the four elements of the earth with his hands, objects of immense sizes with his mind and even people to some extent with his voice. He was the protector of the universe, the one who saved lives. He was one who ruled in complete secrecy due to his unique characteristics. But.” Mom paused, taking in a deep breath. “Because of his power he couldn’t do something even the most simplest human beings could. He couldn’t love. He couldn’t be happy sad or even angry for that matter. The massive powers took up all the space available in his body. The only thing he ever felt was longing, longing to be able to feel what others could. This sorcerer had a younger brother. At first, he helped the sorcerer with anything he needed. But then, the sorcerer started going a little mad from not feeling anything. ” At this point Mom got up and her natural storytelling abilities kicked in. “He observed people from his tall tower and tried to mimic them, following their every action to see what made them so unique. He searched for a remedy to his problems. His work began to get neglected and people started dying of natural disasters because no one was controlling Mother Earth. His younger brother was neglected as well, his one faithful follower who helped him in any way he could. So the brother tried to help the sorcerer. And that, is when the sorcerer met her, the most beautiful woman in existence. She had vibrant green eyes, chocolate brown hair and a dark tan. She moved with elegance, as if, if she ever fell, the ground would catch her. She was Mother Earth herself. The younger brother had, in fact, inherited a bit of the powers himself. He summoned Mother Earth, which was no easy feat, so that she could help him. And it worked to some extent. They fell in love, a love so powerful that nothing could spoil it. The sorcerer resumed is duties but also kept some time for his now wife. So by the time his day was over, there was none spent for the younger brother. He felt betrayed. It was he who brought them together and now he was left all alone! It wasn’t right! So the younger brother instead of talking to his elder brother, as he should of done, he began feeling sorry for himself and soon he began plotting against the two. He began working on what powers he had and soon he was powerful enough to challenge the sorcerer to a duel. The sorcerer was old by this time and since the younger brother had an advantage in youth, he could defeat the sorcerer and kill him. However, he had twins by then. They had just turned fifteen and they received exactly half of the sorcerer’s original powers. They were infuriated at their father’s death so they vowed that if not them, their children or their children’s children would avenge their father’s death. And so, the battle continues, even today, between the various descendants of the sorcerer and his younger brother. All of the children who inherit their power realize it at the age of fifteen just like the original children. Not all of them however, receive all of the power. They receive a small portion of the powers depending how close they are to the direct line. You two however,” Mom put her hands on our shoulders. “Are the direct line to the sorcerer over thousands of years. You two have his blood running in your veins.” She paused to let that sink in. “ So that means the two of you put together have all of the powers the original sorcerer did. So its up to you two,” She gave us a light squeeze, “ To take care of the universe and so on and so forth. Megan and Ashley are your cousins. ”
“Hello cousin.” Megan smiled, or at least, meant to smile. I raised an eyebrow at her attempt to smile, which turned out more like she was baring her teeth.
“And since they are the closest to the direct line, they have to help you two out.”
“Hold on a minute.” I interrupted. “Earlier, they said that Megan and Ashley weren’t their real names. What are they?”

“When is your birthday?” Saleena was looking at Ashley.
“January the 10th.” She smiled back at Sal. “Why? You planning to add it to your calendar or something?”
“January the 10th was just over a month ago.” Sal said coolly, ignoring her remark. “If you just realized your powers when you were fifteen, how come you mastered them so fast?” There was silence after she said this. Wow. She was good. I didn’t even notice that, and I usually notice little details.
“We found out when we were fourteen.” Megan cut in. “Mainly because we can’t help without being able to do what you need to do. So we had an extra year to practice. But don’t worry.” She said quickly when she saw my look of horror. “We just need extra time, the two of you don’t. It will be as easy as breathing to you when you try.”
“Great!” I was starting to feel excited. “Okay, so when do we start training?”
In a flash Megan was up and she pulled Ashley up with her. “Tomorrow afternoon. It’s the weekend so we have a lot of time to work. We will meet you outside in the backyard at eight AM sharp. Drink water, go to the bathroom whatever, but don’t be late.” She walked out of the door, the poked her head back in. “8 AM!” She reminded us.

Chapter 4

“I knew you would be here.”
Saleena stiffened then relaxed when she realized it was only me. She was sitting by the Lake Esme in the center of town, not far from school. Although it was filled with weeds, and wasn’t very popular, it had this aura of calm and tranquility which was a perfect place for us to get away from it all and just think. No one else ever came here but us, and Saleena had been escaping here every time she felt sad or disappointed.
“Are you okay Sal?” I sat down next to her. “I know it is really weird and hard to take in, but we have a duty.”
Saleena got up. “We don’t have a duty Mikey. Who are they to tell us that we have a duty to protect and preserve some random cause? I didn’t sign up for this. We didn’t sign up for this. Why?” She took a deep breath to calm her trembling voice. “Why on earth do you believe them? Why?”
I was silent. I didn’t know why I believed them. I just sort of knew in my heart that what they were saying was true.
“See!” Saleena yelled, throwing a rock into the water. Waves spread out from the point of impact, disrupting the serenity of the place. “You don’t even know why you believe them! You are just going along with them because you don’t have any opinions! You just follow what everyone says without a single thought about what you want to do!”
I froze as if I had been slapped. Sal has NEVER talked to me in that way before. “I don’t do that Saleena. I never do that. I always have an opinion and just because you are mad or you can’t understand what’s going on, doesn’t give you the right to yell at your sister! This is happening to me too!” I was breathless when I finished.
“I don’t believe in this nonsense. I don’t believe in it one bit. And I suggest that you don’t either.” She yelled back. “And what do they mean by the whole family knowing? And even Katya? Katie is too young and innocent! There is no way that she knows anything about this mess.”
Oh so that’s why she was angry. Saleena tended to be protective of Katie whenever she felt confused. “Listen Sal.” I told her, breathing in deeply. “Let’s just go along with it for now. If what they say is true, which it probably is, then Katie will be in on the plan or whatever too. You don’t want her to be disappointed with you, do you?” I asked her.
Her eyes widened and I felt the satisfaction of knowing that I was right. “I don’t.” She sighed. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have yelled at you. I’m sorry.” She said again while she gave me a hug. “Am I forgiven?”
I hugged her back. “Yes” I told her. “You’re forgiven.”

Chapter 3:

“Ashley!” Megan yelled and rushed to her sister’s aid. I was already at her side. The twin stirred at the sound of her name and slowly sat up. She held her head in her hands and murmured, “What happened?”
“You collapsed.” I told her as I helped her up gently. “Are you okay? That was some spill.” She shook her head to clear it. “Yeah, I’m good.” She reassured me and her sister who was watching her with worried eyes. Ashley paused, beginning to look apprehensive. “Is Saleena ok?”
I turned to Saleena. She was still sprawled on the ground, her eyes staring blankly in front of her. The look on her face was one of pure terror. It was truly frightening to look at.  After a few seconds, she blinked a few times and her glazy eyes focused. “Whoa.” She got up unsteadily. “Did that just happen? That was the weirdest thing.”
“It did happen.” Megan told us. “All of it is true. Do you believe me now Saleena?” She asked, gently placing a hand on her shoulder. Saleena didn’t reply.
“I believe you have powers.” I said, answering for my sister. “But I don’t believe that we have powers. There is no way. I mean, I would have noticed by now.”
“That’s my point. You wouldn’t have noticed them at all because the powers are revealed only when you turn fifteen.”
“Then why tell us now? Why not tell us when we actually turn fifteen?” I inquired.
“That’s because according to the stars and planets, your fifteenth birthday is tomorrow, not next week.  The paths of the planets keep changing and you turn fifteen at exactly midnight today.”
I stared open-mouthed at Megan. This was a lot of information to take in one day. As of now, Saleena and I had powers, the whole family knew, the twins were supposed to help us. “Why?” I said out loud.
“Why what?” She inquired. “Why do you have to help us with our powers?” I asked.
Megan looked uneasy, which worried me. Who gives good news while looking uneasy? No one. “Actually, there is something else we have to tell you. You know Yin and Yang right? The idea of symmetrical balance fits perfectly into our story. You are not the only ones in the world with powers. In fact, there are hundreds of us. But the problem is, there are a few who use their powers for evil reasons. You exist in the world to help maintain the balance. I’m sure your mother told you the story of how the two of you used to be one baby in your mother’s womb. The oracle decided to split you into two people to split the power so that the two of you have less pressure in your lives. The two of you are the two halves of one whole. You have to train and perfect your powers so that you can make sure that the others don’t use their powers for evil reasons. It is a great responsibility.”
There was silence after Megan stopped speaking.
“I don’t know if I understand this.” I paused, thinking about which words to use. “It is all too strange for me.”
“Tell you what.” Megan said. “We will come home with you today. Your whole family knows. Even Katya.”
Saleena’s head jerked up. She had been silent during the conversation. “How do you know Katya?! Stay away from her!” Megan jerked back as if she were slapped.
“Saleena? Are you okay?” I asked her. She just shook her head and hopped over the wall. She landed on the other side with a soft thud. Pausing only to look back sadly, she ran off into the distance.
“Saleena!” Ashley called, her worried brown eyes following her already disappearing figure.
“There is no way we can catch up to her at this point, not even me. She has too much of a head start.” I told them. I looked in the direction of her path. “Let’s leave her alone for a while. I have a feeling that I know where she will be.”

Chapter 2: Freaky much?

Drew looked puzzled. “What did you say?”
I swallowed. In all our lives, Saleena and I had never looked like each other. But, after seeing us standing together in the light, with our white eyes and the white highlights in my hair, we actually looked like twins. Twins from Freaksville. It was really hard to understand. “Saleena looks like me. We look alike. Like twins.”
Drew shrugged. “So?” He didn’t get it. “You are twins.” He said over the sound of the first bell. “Listen, I have to get to class- if I’m late another time, I’ll get detention for sure. Later!”
I watched as he disappeared through the big gates. This was really freaky. Saleena stood next to me, lost in thought.
“Come on Sal, we better get to class.” I mumbled. She nodded and followed. As we neared the class, she picked up pace then froze at the door. Weird. Usually I can’t get her to shut up or stop moving. This is so unlike her.
By this time I had reached the door as well. She was still frozen there. I poked her shoulder, but she didn’t move.
“ Hey, dreamy head,” I said waving a hand in front of her face. “Are you going to stand here all day?” I couldn’t believe that she was still frozen in that same spot.
That’s about when I noticed her blue eyes (Thank heavens for that!) fixed on a spot in front of us. I followed her gaze. Standing in the front of the class were two completely identical twins. Everything about them screamed identical; their long brown hair, the way their brown eyes were synchronized as they moved around the room. At least one’s was. The other one was staring back at Saleena. It was like they were conversing in their heads.
I looked at the other twin to find that she was also watching the silent exchange between our sisters. Funny. She looks like someone I have seen before, but that’s impossible. I haven’t seen her before in my life. Maybe she knows me. I tried catching her eye, but she was still focused on the connection between our sisters. Finally, she looked at me.
That’s when it all came to me. I did know her. Not in this life though. This is going to sound really weird but it is like we were soul sisters in another life. See. I told you it was weird. But I’m not joking either. That ONE look at her was all it took for this huge connection to form, and BHAM! It’s like I was looking at past memories with her, most of which didn’t make any sense. As soon as the memories played in my head, I forgot them. Must have slipped back into my subconscious.
“Ow!” That hurt. I think I just had a life’s worth of memories flow into my brain. It was like trying to cram a years worth of science notes into your head the night before the exam. I turned to Saleena. She was supporting her head with her hand. I guess she had the same pained expression that I did. I could almost hear her mind working as it tried to work out what just happened. I hoped she was more successful because I completely failed in trying to figure out the identity of the two girls.
Ms. Briggs’ voice interrupted my thoughts. “I’m sure I told you about Megan and Ashley. They moved here all the way from Connecticut, is that right girls?”
“Yes, we did.” My twin said in this bell-like voice while the other nodded silently. I guess she was my twin, but what else do you call a girl who you don’t know, but know? I don’t remember ever being this confused.
“That’s great!” Ms. Briggs beamed, though I couldn’t imagine what was so great about Connecticut. “I hope you like New Jersey! Now, why don’t you sit down over there? That’s perfect! Now, lets begin!” She clapped her hands, the signal that class had officially begun. “Michaela? Saleena? What on earth are you doing at the door? Get to your seats immediately!”
Saleena and I walked silently to our seats at the back of the room. As I passed Megan’s table, I tripped over her bag and knocked my head on the floor. That was just classy. I sure knew how to make a good impression. Megan reached forward and helped me up. As I grabbed her hand, one word echoed in my mind like a whisper. ‘Later’.
“We need to talk. In private. Now.” It was lunch and Megan stood at my desk with Ashley hovering behind her like a lost puppy.
I felt a surge of anger. She had been here for a whole of two minutes and she already walked around like she owned the place.
“What if we don’t want to?” I asked, surprising my sister and even myself. I was acting like a spoiled brat; this was a first for me.
“Michaela.” Saleena said giving me a look that clearly said I know they seem weird but let’s listen to what they have to say.
“Fine.” I agreed. “But make it quick. I don’t want to have to miss lunch.”
Megan just turned around and headed in the direction of the teacher’s lounge. It was a separate building located near the cafeteria. When she had moved five paces, she turned around and looked at me to say, are you coming or not?
Sighing heavily, I followed her to the back of the lounge. When all of us arrived, there was an awkward silence. That’s when I lost my patience.
“Listen Megan, I don’t know what you want but if you don’t tell us right now, we are leaving!” I turned around and had walked about two steps when a voice ran out. “Don’t go! This is important!”
Ashley had spoken. She spoke again in this whisper that seemed to echo around the garden. “Just wait,” She said, “My sister will tell you everything”. She looked like a gentle little child who you wanted to help and take care of.
“Okay Megan,” I said, turning to her, “Tell us what you need to.”
“Well, first of all,” she said picking up a leaf and twirling it in the air, “My name isn’t Megan, and her name isn’t Ashley. It’s just a fake name the oracle set up so that we could come here and talk to you. You don’t really need to know our real names at the moment; the most important thing right now is for us to tell you what you need to know.” She paused for a while to let us take it in. Ashley stood by watching nervously. “You won’t believe me at first but whatever I say now is true. You and your sister, have incredible powers that can control the universe.”
Saleena burst out laughing. “Powers? That is so funny Megan. You know, if you want to be our friend you don’t have to tell us random stories.”
Megan sighed. “I knew you two wouldn’t believe us. You and your sister have incredible powers that can control the fate of the universe! Have you ever had strange experiences? Things only you two can do that no one else can?” She paused to let us think.
I thought back to earlier that day when we were running. It was pretty weird the way we could speed up and still not get tired. And it happened again a few days ago, when I managed to climb that tall tree in our backyard to rescue Mr. Fluffles, the neighbor’s cat. But that was stupid. I don’t have powers.
“Those were your powers manifesting long before they were ready to be used. Saleena,” Megan said turning to her. “You have the power of the mind. You can read minds and control objects with it. You are telekinetic and telepathic.”
Saleena just stared at her blankly.
“And Michaela.” She said turning to me, “You have the power over the elements. You can control fire, water, air, earth, temperature and even the weather. Have you ever felt that the weather had changed in exact relation to your mood?”
I thought back again to this morning, how the wind was playing with me and how the day was bright and fresh. When I was younger, whenever it rained, I had a bad mood and whenever it was sunny, I was in a good mood. I used to think that the weather affected my moods.
There was an awkward silence after that. Megan shook her head. “Do you believe me? It is really important that you do. Listen,” she said, “I will prove it to you. Ashley and I also have powers but it isn’t as powerful as yours are. Our role is to help you and teach you how to control them. I am supposed to help you, Michaela and Ashley is supposed to help Saleena. It isn’t going to be easy.”
I don’t know why, but I knew that Megan was speaking the truth. Something told me to believe her and, I kind of did already. I took a breath. “Okay Megan, prove to us that you have powers and I might believe you.” Saleena looked quizzically over at me; she obviously thought I wasn’t thinking straight.
Megan looked relieved. So did Ashley. I had almost forgotten about Ashley. She stood at the side, so quietly that you could forget that she was there. She caught me looking at her and smiled a sweet smile. She walked over to Megan and squeezed her arm lightly. “That’s great!” Megan said. “Now I want you two to watch with uttermost concentration. We won’t show it to you again for a while. Not at school at least. Now, Ashley, ready? OK, lets begin.”
The two of them joined hands and closed their eyes. Their faces looked peaceful. Saleena and I waited. Nothing happened. Saleena snorted.
Megan spoke in this eerie, monotonous voice. “It will take a while to show for non-believers. But if you already believe in the power within, it will show itself to you immediately.”
That’s when I saw it. A strange purple and green light was being emitted from the twins. The wind picked up, swirling around the two like in the eye of a tornado. The twins opened their eyes simultaneously. Stumbling back, Saleena let out a high-pitched scream. Their whole eyes had changed color completely! Megan's was a strange purple, and Ashley’s was an unbelievable green.  Slowly, they let go of each other’s hands and stood about two feet apart. Megan swayed on the spot with her arms out and cupped her hands together in front of her. As if by a silent command, the air swirled around her and formed a small, tight ball in her open and cupped hands. She took a step back with her right leg, bringing her hands apart, but controlling the little ball of air as she did so and after a slight pause, hurled it at the wall, which shattered with a resounding crash. Then, she lowered her hands and pointed it at the soft, wet earth. I watched, mesmerized, as the dirt rose up in the air and formed a ball once again at her fingertips. Her hands moved fast as it carefully molded the ball of rock into a face, my face. She held it out to me, willing me to take it.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Ashley spin in place twice then turn towards a different portion of the wall and crush it with her mind, breaking it mercilessly. Saleena fell on the ground as she watched Ashley rebuild the broken wall, piece by piece with a look that was a mix of awe and fear. Megan hurled the crushed pieces of what was once my face at Ashley. Saleena gasped in fear, as it flew with immense force at her, and then sighed with relief when the earth ball didn’t even go within five feet of her and bounced off harmlessly.
The air stopped whirling around us, and the earth returned itself to where it was taken from. The twins stopped moving entirely. Megan opened her eyes and looked at us. There was silence for a few minutes. “Well,” She said finally, “Do you believe us now?”
I swallowed. “Right now,” I said, “I don’t know if what I just saw was my imagination acting up or something that really happened.”
Megan smiled. “That really happened. I controlled the earth and air and Ashley controlled the earth with her mind and the fence. The only difference is that Ashley doesn’t need her hands to work with anything. I do. Isn’t that right Ashley?” There was no reply from Ashley. She stood motionless, staring blankly at the ground. “Ashley?” Megan called and placed a hand on her shoulder. Ashley collapsed.

Chapter 1- The Day our Lives changed Forever

READ THE PROLOGUE FIRST.

“MOM!” I yelled, hoping that she could hear me. “Have you seen them? The science notes, I mean. I swear I left them right on the desk!” I had been up late last night putting them together and now I really needed them.
Kathleen Howard walked into my room, expertly folding a blanket. She was distracted, I could tell. “Have I seen what honey? Dear God…” She stopped and stood in the doorway, her wide blue eyes taking in the mess of my junkyard. That’s right, I said junkyard. My room is most of the time way too messy to be called a room.  I always clean it up, and then in 10 minutes it’s messy again. “What happened in here? It looks like a cyclone hit it!”
I looked around the junkyard; there were clothes on the floor, books falling over, and stuff dumped on my table and papers everywhere. It did look like a storm hit it.
“What is Michaela yelling about?” Saleena grumbled. She stopped and let out a low whistle. “Omigod! What happened in here? It looks like a...”
“Cyclone hit it? I know.” I grumbled.
“Actually,” she said, “I was going to say typhoon, but cyclone pretty much says it all.” She paused. “What causeth thy tempest?”
“I can’t find my science notes!” I wailed. “I’m so going to flunk!”
“Oh. Right.” She mumbled, looking guilty. “You mean these? I woke up early to copy them over. I’m sorry. I should have asked.”
I sighed in relief. Thank God they weren’t lost. “It’s ok,” I told her and gave her a hug. “Just tell me next time. Or leave me a note, whatever. But you have to help clean this up.” I gestured to the mess in my room.
Saleena sighed, but nodded. “Come on Mikey!” she said, using her special nickname for me. “We are going to be late!”
You must have guessed my name by now. Michaela Elena Howard, not Mikayla as some spell it. Just plain old Mikey. I’m fourteen, turning fifteen in a week. I have black hair and really big light brown eyes. I have to admit that it is pretty rare to see someone with that combination, though it is possible. People think that it makes me look stunning, but I think I look like a creature from hell. My younger sister, my twin actually, is the more beautiful twin, by my standards.
Saleena Riley Howard has platinum blonde hair and the biggest and the bluest eyes I have ever seen. We don’t look anything alike. Nobody, including the doctors knew that she was going to be born. It was a shock, Mom said, a shock to see her pop out as well. Her words, not mine. She always said that God had decided to grant her two lovely girls instead of the one she was waiting for. Well, she got three anyway.
Katya Angela Howard, Katie for short is our sweet ten-year-old sister. The darling listens to everything we say and we are her role models. It’s really weird though, but we adore her all the same. Her blonde hair and grey blue eyes make her the most adorable little sister in the world.
Kathleen Howard, well you have already met Mom. She is the most perfect mother in existence. She hardly ever loses her temper and she gives us enough freedom. Katie is the perfect replica of her. I guess she was cast from the same mold.
And last but definitely not the least, Brian Howard. Dad works for the local paper, The Herald. I’m not exactly sure what he does though. He has brown hair and blue eyes that could tell a truth from a lie.
“Mikey! Hurry up!” Saleena yelled from the yard.
“I’m coming!” I called over my shoulder as I yanked my bag out from underneath the huge pile of clothes.
When I joined her outside, she was practically skipping with excitement. “What are you wound up about?”
“Don’t you remember? Ms. Briggs told us that there were two new girls joining us today! Twins! Imagine another pair just like us?”
I smiled. So that’s why she was in such a hurry today. I should have known. I mean, I can always guess what she is thinking about most of the time at least. It must be because of our “twin-ly” connection. I think that our unity is stronger than most. Sometimes, we can read each other’s minds. I’m not joking. It is really weird because from time to time, we converse telepathically in our dreams. Dad says that it is probably just because we are twins and our minds used to be one, so that’s why it probably works like that.
I picked up my pace to catch up to her; oblivious to the fact that Mom was watching us leave with a worried look on her face.
Saleena began skipping down the pavement. I began laughing, her enthusiasm was catching. As we reached the top of the hill upon which the school was located, the wind began playfully blowing through my hair straightening it out.
“Race you to the front door!” she called over her shoulder, already running at full speed.
“No fair!” I called back as I picked up steam, “You started early!” Come on Mikey, push yourself. You ARE the older twin.  The background began to blur as I sped along, keeping only my goal in sight- the front door.
“FIRST!” We both yelled touching the door at the same time. I took ten seconds to calm down before I spoke.
“I was first.” I told Saleena. She shook her head. “I was first! My fingernail touched it first.” She held up her hands, displaying her long, perfectly manicured fingernails.
I gave her that one. She never lied or faked to get out of anything. And neither did I.
“You did have a head start.” I reminded her.
“Whoa!” said a voice behind us, “That must have been the fastest you girls have ever run! I think you broke your own record!”
Saleena and I were the fastest in the whole school. And we were only freshmen! Our fastest record beat the boy’s fastest speed by TWENTY seconds in the mile run! It was so cool.
We turned around. “Drew!” I squealed and threw my arms around him. “Did we really break it?”
Drew pulled away, blushing from the hug. He should have been used to them by now, seeing that he was our good friend and everything “I don’t know,” he admitted as the sun began shining on our faces, “But there is a good chance that you did.” He turned his gaze to me. “Whoa… Michaela… you look freaky!” He stumbled back, his eyes widening in shock.
I saw Saleena turn to me. She gasped. “Seriously Mikey! You’re eyes are white!”
I frowned. There was no way that was possible. Come on, white-eyes?
“Give me a sec, I think I have a mirror somewhere.” As she began rummaging in her bag, the sun began shining on her face as well. I felt uncomfortable; Drew wouldn’t quit staring at my supposedly white eyes. When she looked up, clutching the mirror, I involuntarily took a step back. Her eyes had also turned pure white! Drew followed my gaze and whistled. Saleena glanced up and saw our faces turn in her direction; Drew’s full of awe and mine full of shock. Realization dawned on her face.
“My eyes are white too, aren’t they?” she said in a whisper. She gripped the mirror and looked into it. Her eyes grew as big as a saucer. “Are you seeing what I’m seeing?”
I walked over to her and took a breath before looking at myself in the mirror. The girl who was in the reflection was looking back at me steadily. She had black hair with white-ish highlights. The girl next to me did not look like Saleena at all. It was hard to believe but Saleena looked like…
“Me.” It came out as a hoarse whisper.

Prologue- Untitled Story

YEAH SO.. this is something I started last year, but the idea of it kind of just died. My friends encouraged me to keep writing so just check it out. You might get a laugh or two out of it, but I don't care. This is the longest story that I've continued and I intend to write at least ONE STORY by the time I'm in University.

The dark night was quiet. It was the kind of night that sent shivers down your spine. There was tension in the air, and impatience too. The atmosphere was so thick with it that you could almost taste it.
The clouds drifted across the dark sky and hid the full moon. Now pitch-black, it was impossible to see anything. The only illumination came from the well-lit hospital on Sterling road. A woman screamed in pain, her cry breaking the stillness of the night. As her scream faded away, it was replaced immediately by the pure sound of a baby’s first cry.

Those present in the emergency room gasped in awe as they saw the baby girl for the first time. She was the most beautiful baby they had ever seen. She had soft, jet-black hair that was just beginning to grow from her head. The baby stopped crying, and opened its eyes. Everyone watched her, captivated by the girl’s hazel brown eyes.

Then the mother screamed again, and this time, there wasn’t a cry. This baby girl had white blonde hair and the bluest eyes you could imagine on a person. No one knew that the second child would be born at all. It was a miracle, really.

When everything was cleaned up, the doctor looked up into the now clear night sky. Those babies were special; he could feel it in his heart.

THE BEAT!

Yeah So, I've talked about the school newspaper, THE BEAT! before. For the first issue, they gave me a chance to publish one of my stories. I was elated; I was actually jumping around my room with excitement (yeah I do that....I'M SO COOL!) And then I wrote a really good story that I was so proud of, the only thing was that it was about 900 words and the limit was 400. SO, I cut down on all my descriptions, the best part of my writing and managed to make it 600 words. Even so, they didn't have enough space to fit it in.
I was disappointed. That is when my friend Suh told me that I could put up my stories here, on my blog for everyone to read! Then I will not get rejected, and I have the freedom to write whatever I want and not worry about the length at all. So here are some of my older pieces.
Try not to laugh.
If you did, I'm glad I gave you a good time.

God.

I came across this post today and it truly made me think about religion and God. Just read it, you don't have to do anything but keep this story in your mind.

A teenage girl about 17 had gone to visit some friends one evening and time passed quickly as each shared their various experiences of the past year. She ended up staying longer than planned, and had to walk home alone. She wasn't afraid because it was a small town and she lived only a few blocks away. As she walked along under the tall elm trees, Diane asked God to keep her safe from harm and danger. When she reached the alley, which was a short cut to her house, she decided to take it. However, halfway down the alley she noticed a man standing at the end as though he was waiting for her. She became uneasy and began to pray, asking for God's protection. Instantly a comforting feeling of quietness and security wrapped round her, she felt as though someone was walking with her. When she reached the end of the alley, she walked right past the man and arrived home safely. The following day, she read in the newspaper that a young girl had been raped in the same alley just twenty minutes after she had been there. Feeling overwhelmed by this tragedy and the fact that it could have been her, she began to weep. Thanking the Lord for her safety and to help this young woman, she decided to go to the police station. She felt she could recognize the man, so she told them her story. The police asked her if she would be willing to look at a lineup to see if she could identify him. She agreed and immediately pointed out the man she had seen in the alley the night before. When the man was told he had been identified, he immediately broke down and confessed. The officer thanked Diane for her bravery and asked if there was anything they could do for her. She asked if they would ask the man one question. Diane was curious as to why he had not attacked her. When the policeman asked him, he answered, "Because she wasn't alone. She had two tall men walking on either side of her." Amazingly, whether you believe or not, you're never alone. Did you know that 98% of teenagers will not stand up for God? Repost this as if you truly believe in God. PS: God is always there in your heart and loves you no matter what and if you stand up for him he will stand up for you. I bet 93% of the people that read this wont re-post it.
